Audio Visual Distribution AV Senders

Wireless AV senders

A Wireless AV Sender is a product comprising two main components - a wireless transmitter and wireless receiver. Working together, these two components wirelessly send audio/video signals throughout your home.

AV Senders offer a simple, affordable and effective alternative to wired audio/video distribution systems, and are often the only solution where cables can not be run. AV senders are simple to set-up - connect the transmitter component to your Foxtel box (or other A/V 'source' device) then connect the receiver component to the TV in the 2nd room. Turn it all on and you're then ready to curl up and watch your favourite programs in the other room all without wires.

All of our AV senders include an IR-extender feature, providing the convenience of being able to use your remote control from the 2nd location.

Not all wireless AV Senders are created equally - there are some things to keep in mind when making your selection:

  • Signal range: Typically you can expect to send a wireless audio visual signal between 1030 meters, depending on number of obstacles in the way and what they're made of. As an example, our 5GHz Digital Matrix AV Sender (HDMI) has a 40m range, but this is in ideal-conditions without obstacles in between. The more obstacles in the way (and denser the obstacles), the shorter the range will be.
  • Interference: All wireless devices are susceptible to interference, wireless AV senders are no different. Thanks to new digital transmission technology, we now have a range of Wireless AV Senders that are intelligent enough to avoid most interference issues. If you decide that our 5.8GHz AV Sender is the right choice for you (our only non-digital model, but the most cost effective), then please make sure that you do not have any other wireless devices (such as a 5.8GHz cordless phone) operating on the same frequency. If you would like to avoid interference issues, then our HDMI AV Senders may be the right choice for you.

How wireless AV senders work

How AV Senders Work

Transmitter

Receiver

How does it work? It's simple really; let's use Foxtel as an example. The Transmitter connects to your Foxtel box using the supplied AV cables. Your Foxtel signal is then wirelessly transmitted, through walls and ceilings, to the Receiver.

The Receiver (connected to your 2nd TV) picks up the Foxtel signal sent from the Transmitter and displays it on your TV in another room. Best of all, you can still use your Foxtel remote to control your Foxtel box using the built-in wireless IR extender.

How it works

There are two basic categories of Wireless AV Senders:

Standard Definition AV Senders

Standard Definition

Although almost all flat panel televisions sold today are known as High Definition (HD) TVs, there is still very little HD content available (although this is changing fast). All of the free-to-air (also now known as Freeview) network stations have very limited HD channels and even less HD content. Foxtel offer both Standard & High Definition set-top-boxes, and even if you have Foxtel HD (iQ2), there are only limited channels that are truly High Definition. This will of course change in the future, but for now, if all you want to do is send your Standard Definition Foxtel or Austar signal to another room, a Standard Definition AV Sender is the right solution for you.

High Definition (HD) AV Senders

High Definition

We have all heard the terms like HD and 1080P, but what does it truly mean? Technically it means High Definition. Practically it means a picture quality that is amazingly crisp, sharp and full of detail. Movies seem to come alive; the cricket or football almost looks like you are really there! HD is probably the single biggest leap in television technology since the introduction of colour nearly 40 years ago. If all that HD offers is important to you, sharper images and amazing detail - then an HD Wireless AV Sender is your right choice.

Which AV Sender is right for you?

The first choice you will need to make is whether you want a Standard Definition or High Definition (HD) AV Sender. This choice may already be made for you based on the equipment you have. For instance, if all you want to do is send your standard definition Foxtel or Austar signal to another room, then all you need is either our 5.8GHz AV Sender.

If you have Foxtel HD (IQ3 or IQ2), Austar HD, Vast HD or any other source-device with a HDMI output, then a HD AV Sender is the way to go. Perhaps you would like to transmit your home theatre PC (HTPC), Playstation/XBox/other games console, or your PC/Mac output to another TV or projector in your home? As long it has an HDMI connection, then one of the HD AV Senders is the right choice.

If you don't know whether you have standard-definition or high-definition equipment then simply look at the back of your equipment and determine what type of output connections are available:
