Your choice of home control transmitters and interfaces is where you get to really choose the power of your system. They send X10 control signals along the powerlines to receivers, which in turn respond by switching a light or appliance. A range of different transmitters can be installed in your home control system, each providing unique functionality.
Tech note - The difference between transmitters and interfaces is that transmitters only transmit X10 signals, not receive as well. Interfaces (such as the computer module) can both transmit and receive X10 signals. For example - a computer module may receive a single signal from a keyring remote control. The software recognises this signal as the trigger that you've just arrived home so it then transmits several signals to turn on the front verandah lights, fire up the heater and start some ambeint music playing on your your stereo!
